Looking to do something a bit different with Dad this Father’s Day?  The Mt Rainier Scenic Railroad has created a Father’s Day BBQ and Steam Train ride especially for DADS on June 19th, 2011! The Mt Rainier Scenic Railroad is located in the small town of Elbe is about a 45 minute drive from JBLM.  If you’re not familiar with the MRSR, it is the longest continuously operating steam train railroad in the Pacific Northwest.  Pulled by these genuine vintage steam locomotives, young and old passengers on the MRSR are in for a trip back in time as they pass through forest and meadows, next to clear mountain streams, and over high wooden trestles.

This is a fantastic family adventure any time of year, but this Father’s Day the MRSR has created a special day just for Dad:

You will depart from the Elbe Depot for a 45 minute trip out to pristine Mineral Lake. There you will be greeted by a good Ole’ Fashion BBQ with BBQ Ribs, Chicken, Cowboy Beans, Coleslaw, scrumptious dessert and of course a beverage included. During your 30 minute stay, enjoy the peaceful lake area, walking trail or a game of horseshoes. Then re-board the train for a leisurely 45 minute return trip to Elbe. The total excursion lasts about 2 to2 1/2 hours. –MRSR

In addition to the scenery, excitement of the train, and delicious BBQ, all dad’s will get their own Train Engineer’s hat!  Ticket and reservation information (including $5 off for Military) can be found here.
