For many families, finding a home close to JBLM with all the amentities close by is a challenge. There are many neighborhoods to choose from, but sometimes finding the right combination of price, commute time, and spaciousness can be a challenge. For JBLM defense contractor Jarrod Bartlett and his wife Amy, they found what they were looking for in Lakewood’s Southgate neighborhood. At the time they had just recently married and were looking to start a family.
“We loved the big lots and the fenced backyard,” says Amy. “The kids can even walk to the elementary school! In the evening families take walks through our winding neighborhood.”
Southgate is a pocket neighborhood located in Lakewood near where I-5 meets 512- making the commute for Jarrod to JBLM under 10 minutes. “We’re so close to the base and the coming Sounder Commuter Station,” says Amy. “We are a commuters dream.” At the same time, their location is also close amenties like Lakewood Town Center, Starbucks, and Dairy Queen.
“One day, not long after we moved in our neighbor across the street came by with her granddaughter to play.” remembers Amy. “She has lived here since the neighborhood’s inception and had known the original owners of our home. She gasped upon entrance, put her hand on her chest and said, ‘Your home is so lovely! It’s nice to know you took care in rejuvenating it!’ We take pride in the fact that this home was built by craftsmen and we helped modernize it while keeping its roots.”
Now their kids are growing up, and the Bartletts are moving closer to the kids’ grandparents. If you’re interesting in an affordable home in Southgate with a short commute to JBLM, check out their beautiful home here or call their agent Regina Madiera-Gorden.
